Years ago as a kid you may remember running laps around the field, or waiting in line forever until it was finally your turn to take a shot on goal (and then "back in line"), or sitting through long boring lectures from your coach who seemed to just like to hear himself talk. Did you find these "drills" fun? Of course you didn't, nor will your players today. It is these three "L's" - Laps, Lines, and Lectures, that must be avoided! A MUCH more effective method of helping your players develop their soccer skills is a "Games Approach" to learning soccer. |
 |
The Games Approach replaces all those boring drills with fun, creative games, some with names you'll recognize such as "Red Light, Green Light" and "Freeze Tag", and others with more crazy ones like "The Blob" and "Mosquito". Kids love playing games, and incorporating them into your practices while at the same time using a soccer ball is the recipe for success in coaching youth soccer players to improve their skills. The result is a higher level of energy, focus, and attention. They'll almost be learning the sport of soccer without even knowing it!
Something to keep in mind is that you can never have enough variety. So in this section you'll find a "database" of great soccer games. They're grouped by associated skills, with further breakdown by intended age range. I hope you enjoy them. If there are games that you like to use that you don't see here, please pass them along.
