Suggested Equipment

The supplies and equipment you'll need to be a good soccer coach are not expensive, but there are some you'll want to have. Below you'll find a list of what I feel are the 10 most important items.

New for fans of Amazon! I've set up a separate page that lists many of the items below, sold direct by Amazon. So if you're an Amazon user and would like to purchase some good coaching gear, please check this out. Amazon does pay me a very small commission on any purchases you make through this page, so it's a great way to help support this website!

Soccer Cones and Discs
Soccer Cones and Discs

You'll need lots of these (1-2 dozen) to use as boundaries for your practice areas, temporary goals, targets, etc. Cones stand out more, but discs don't get knocked over. Get some of each.
Soccer Ball Pump
Ball Pump

Inevitably your players will show up with balls that are too soft or even flat. Have a pump on hand so their practice time isn't hindered.
Soccer Practice Vests
Practice Vests

Many of your practice games (and scrimmages) will have two teams. With colored "pinnies" for each team, players will more easily identify their teammates and get more out of their play.
Soccer Bag
Ball Bag

You'll soon have a list of things to carry to and from practice (aside from extra balls). Get a good bag to hold it all.
Portable Soccer Goals
Portable Goals

If your practice area doesn't have goals, these are a good substitute. They "fold up" to fit in a small bag that fits easily in your trunk.
First Aid Kits
First Aid Kit

Check your league's policies on first aid training, but having a kit with basic bandages and an ice pack is always a good idea.
Soccer Balls
Extra Balls
Your players may forget to bring their own, and many practice games work better with more. So having a few extra balls comes in handy.
Whistle
Whistle

At times, nothing can get your team's attention more than a whistle, especially with older teams spread out on larger fields.
Soccer Referee Watch
Watch

You probably already have one, but it's a must-have. Keeping track of your planned "itinerary" is critical to a successful practice.
Soccer Clipboard
Clipboard

I prefer one with an inside compartment in which I can store practice notes, a copy of my roster, and other papers.
